Stessa blushes at your comforting gesture and follows you in silence.
Standing in the reception area are six individuals; five of which are dressed in simple black graments. The sixth, a blonde woman wears brown Jedi robes.
With her are two other human women; one with pale skin and brown hair, the other with dark skin and very short brack hair, an uncomfortable looking Quarren, a twitchy Rodian, and a willowy female with pale blue skin and a crest of feathery white hair.
They recognise you immediately, and the women seem happy to see you. The Quarren and the Rodian are harder to read... |

Smiling in greeting, Torren says "It's good to see you all again, I hope your doing well and, hopefully, adjusting to life on Naboo?" |

The blonde in the Jedi robes looks at the others then back at you.
"It is good to be off that ship" she says, "But I think I speak for all of us when I say we want to be doing something to stri... to stop the Empire from abducting more people like us. We don't want to feel useless" |

"I understand your position, and I'm really an grateful that you all are willing to help against the Empire. However, you must understand that right now is a very dangerous time for you. Striking out in anger, seeking revenge against the Empire and giving in to your hate and fear.... you do this and the Dark Side wins. Falter now and everything they did to you will be a victory for them."
Pausing and looking around the room, Torren continues "In time, probably sooner rather then later, we will be more then happy to have you aid us, Jedi and Rebel, to save the galaxy from darkness. But to do that, we have to save ourselves first and that means we need healing from the traumas we've endured and proper training so that we learn to use our abilities without fear, hate and anger fueling them... It won't be easy, but it will make all the difference in the world..." |

"There is more to this Force than the power of rage?" the Rodian asks, his voice uncertain.
"Yara likes this idea. Power of rage did no good against the Wookiee"
"The Dark Side is easy to learn, Yara" the blonde girl says,
"But it destroys who we are and makes us slaves to destructive impulses"
She steps forward and offers you her right hand.
"Valara Star" she says, looking you over.
"Arrisa is a lucky woman and a fine teacher" |

Torren smiles, takes the offered hand and replies "Your too kind, Valara." Looking over at the Rodian, he adds "What she says is the Truth. The Dark Side is a downward spiral to your own doom. It corrupts, ruins and ultimately destroys anyone you succumbs to it. With our help, you can learn to avoid it's temptation. If you're willing, of course?" |

"Yara will not hunt with Dark Side" the Rodian says firmly.
"Angry hunters make mistakes. Mistakes make hunters prey. Yara will not be prey again"
"I think we can work with that" Valara murmurs. |

Patting Yara's shoulder, Torren smirks, then says "That's good to hear and we'll do our best to help you learn... does anyone else have any questions? comments? Anything..." |

"Only that I agree with the bit about angry hunters being bad hunters" the dark-skinned woman says, "Though there is something that concerns me..."
Before she can finish, the Quarren interrupts.
"I'll tell you what concerns me" he insists.
"All I've heard these past two days is praise for the Mon Calamari, how we all owe them everything, and that sort of Hutt-slime. I fought against the Republic to free my people from Mon Calamari dominance and I will not fight alongside them until they accept responsibility for the damage their foolish actions have done to our homeworld" |

(Galactic Lore and Social Sciences result)
You remember learning that the planet Dac (also known as Mon Calamari) is almost errevocably divided due to the attitudes of the two primary native species towards outsiders. Over the centuries, trouble has found Dac many times, and the Quarrens blame the Mon Calamari.
The two species have fought many times over the planet's involvement in galactic affairs and the Quarrens are especially bitter that the Mon Calamari have always made the decisions that affect both their species. Many Quarrens would prefer that their homeworld be left out of galactic affairs altogether. During the Corporate War, the Quarrens tried to wrest control of Dac away from the Mon Calamari, which drew massive Republic and Confederacy fleets into the conflict. The Quarrens blame this outside interference on the Mon Calamari while many Mon Calamari consider the Quarrens to be cowards for not embracing galactic civilisation. |

After thinking for a moment, Torren answers "Well, one way to help your people get what you feel they deseerve... would be to lead by example. Become a Jedi and you show that you are trustworthy, loyal to the galaxy and brave... it would go a long way toward showing your people are not cowards, nor unwilling to work with the galaxy at large. It would show that you are a shining example of what your people could be and that Quarrens deserve to have a say in planetary and galactic matters." |

Krus the Quarren raises his right hand towards your throat, and you feel him call upon the Force, drawing it into himself in preparation to choke the life out of you. A moment later he changes his mind, letting go of the power and lowering his hand without actually using the Force against you.
“You are either brave or foolish for insulting my whole species to my face” he snarls, then chuckles. He continues in a slightly nicer tone.
“But I like the way you think. Your plan is sound. I will learn, and the Mon Calamari will see” |

Nodding slightly, Torren says "I apologize if it sounded like I was insulting Quarrens... I was merely stating what I perceived as the perception against your people. I have no doubt that this perception is false and I'll be more then happy to dispel it... with your help."
Looking over to the dark-skinned woman, he goes on "What was it you were saying that concerns you?" |

Shooting an angry look to the Quarren for interrupting her, the dark-skinned woman (Dayna) steps forward.
"As I was about to say, my father invented weapons, even ones that he never intended to see used. That seems wasteful to me; to develop something that can never be used. The Empire would have us believe that the Force is a weapon and meant to be used as such. Why else would we have access to it? |

"See, the Force is more then a weapon or tool to be used and discarded as we see fit... The Force is an energy field that encompasses all life in the galaxy. Through it, we are all connected, all together feeding off it and from it... without the Force, life would not exist."
Taking a moment to look around the group, he adds "For those of us who are privileged enough to feel the Force, and this goes for all Force users, it falls to us to take care. We have an enormous responsibility the likes of which most beings in the galaxy cannot even comprehend. This is why, for example, the galaxy suffers so when some of us, the chosen few, choose to disregard our duty and misuse the Force. It causes chaos, death, fear, destruction and hate.... all things that imbalance the Force and the galaxy with it!"
Pausing to let his words sink in, and to center himself, he looks on them grimly before finishing "I don't know why some of us can feel the Force while others are blissfully unaware, but for whatever reason, it falls to us to do the Will of the Force. The Force is life, do you know what its Will is?" |

It is Valara who answers your question.
"The Force is life, and the purpose of life is to grow and to create. Weapons can only destroy, but the Force, like nature, always brings new life even in the aftermath of terrible destruction. The Dark Side is ultimately self-defeating because it drives its victims to destroy and destroy until there is nothing left" |

"Exactly, and that is why we must follow the Will of the Force. This is what the Jedi do. We protect, preserve, nurture, defend and allow life to continue and grow. The Force is a weapon when we must fight, a tool we need to use it, but most importantly, it is a gift. I only hope you all learn to use this gift wisely." Torren finishes, face solemn and looking away.
After getting a drink, he asks "Is there anymore questions for me at the moment?" |

The former prisoners all exchange looks then shake their heads.
All except Valara, who has something to add.
"I think you're doing a good job of explaining the theory" she says kindly, a knowing look on her face, "But there is the question of practice" |

"Very true..." Torren answers, then looks to the group and adds "understanding what should be done... well, it's a lot different then really doing it." Taking a moment to think to himself, he paces a few times, then continues.
"This is why the Jedi train the way we do. When we follow the Jedi code, we clear our beings of negative emotions, clam ourselves, overcome our failings and allow the Force to guide our actions."
*looking at each person in turn* "It isn't easy, but with the proper training it can be as natural as breathing..." Again, Torren takes a moment to think before speaking, then says "Here, the best way I can explain this is by showing you. Gather around in a circle and sit with e, okay?" He asks, then goes to the center of the room and sits, cross legged on the floor, and waits for the others to follow suite. |
