Al narrows her eyes at the lord, but one look at the food is all she needs to distract herself from Lilly's taunting, and she immediately begins stuffing her face in, mostly with meat. She's muttering obscenities the whole time - apparently the anger makes her hungry...

The rest of the meal is enjoyed without the jousting of the two ladies to spoil anyone's appetite. After, as the Lord Warden has servants carry off the trays and refresh drinks, he continues "Now to the matter at hand." The elderly man begins, then stops short as his Dwarven aid enters the room.

"Lord Warden and distinguished guests, our friend, Lucien, from the Elven Realm of Harkenwold has returned, mi' Lord and bears news on his recent travels." The Dwarf bellows crisply, then nods to an as of yet unseen figure in the hall...

The new arrival wastes no time in entering the hall, sparing only a cursory glance for each of the guests before wearily making his way to the Lord Warden. But in that time it can be seen that he is a tall elf, 5'7" or so, with a handsome face, a muscular build, and long, raven black hair. The hair is tied into two braids, which hang down the length of his back and swish as he walks. Still dressed in his leather armor and smelling of horse and grit, it is obvious that he came straight here as soon as he arrived in Fallcrest, perhaps speaking to the urgency of his mission.

Balling his right hand into a fist and placing it over his heart with a clap, the scout Lucien gives a slight bow of his head before saying, "Greetings Lord Markelhey, I have completed my patrol and have come to report my findings."

"Ahh, excellent. I'm glad you've returned safely and I trust it must be important information you return with. Please, have a seat and tell us what you have discovered." Lord Markelhey requests, waiving a hand toward the nearest available seat.

Al pauses in her stuffing her mouth with food to regard the entering elf, her scarlet eyes fixing themselves on his as she speaks. She then notes the Lord's insistence that he speak and shrugs, continuing to scarf down amounts of food that seems ridiculous for someone of her size.

Taking the indicated seat, Lucien takes a few moments to order his thoughts before beginning his tale. "I left the city early this morning, before the sun rise. Shadowing the King's Road from the north, I rode to and fro, trying to spot anything unusual. At mid morning (10:00 am), I spotted my first signs of banditry, finding signs of battle and a dead human male. There were a few broken javelins and a lot of turned up dirt and trampled grass. The only clue to the whereabouts of his attackers was the heavy grooves of the dead man's former wagon moving away further to the west."

"The man himself carried no identification, but his once fine dress allowed me to surmise that he was a merchant, most likely taking his wares to market here in Fallcrest. Hastily consigning the remains to a shallow grave, I decided to follow the wagon tracks, perhaps discovering the villain's lair so they could be brought to the Lord Warden's justice. While following this trail for much of the day, I came across scattered pieces of random items. A comb here, a belt there. Each item appeared to be of little value to anyone beyond their former owners, probably discarded as the raiders returned to their camp."

"It was here that I spotted a large manor in the distance and decided to proceed further on foot. My caution was warranted as I came upon a patrol of goblins not twenty minutes later. But Avandra was with me, and I had time enough to hide as they passed within 10 feet of my position. I'm not ashamed to say that I spent the rest of this tale on my stomach as I crawled my way within seeing distance of their base. It was indeed within the manor, and it is heavily fortified, my lord. It appears the villains have been repairing it for some time, though through what means and for how long I do not know."

"My mission complete, I spent the better part of an hour crawling back to my horse, where I rode with all haste back to Fallcrest."

His tale finished, Lucien sits back, waiting for any questions that those assembled here might have.

Lillian slouches visibly and begins to shift her weight and fidget in her chair throughout the last part of the newly joined member's monologue.

"My Gods," she cries aloud dragging her hands down the her face, "this scout makes me want to pierce myself with sharp objects!"
"No offense, scout," She says looking to his direction briefly before finishing the rest of her drink, "I think I'm gonna need something stronger the juice if I am to be expected to endure more of this stimulating conversation."

Tristan pays attention to the scouts story with interest taking in every word. And offers his sentiments,"Good work indeed friend ... that took much skill."

Pausing to think about the situation Tristan continues with,
"No doubt with so many of them there was no need to kill anyone. These bandits have no such thing as honor. And with a fortified camp it doesn't seem like they will be going any time soon. Did you get an idea of how many there are?"

Alatea continues ignoring the two young ladies at the table and listens intently to the scout's report.

Once she is sure that the scout and Tristan are finished she turned to the Lord Mayor, "If this manor is that close to Fallcrest surely you know who should be living there. Could the bandits be holding the rightful owners hostage?"[/i]

"Not an exact count, no. The patrol itself was made up of six goblins but I saw other tracks scattered about as well. Whoever they were, they stepped heavy and wore boots. I could spot no others, not even on the walls. Any number I gave would only be a guess."

Dripping sarcasm Lucien fires back, "None taken. If I had known that matters of life and death were not enough to hold your interest, I would have spiced it up a little bit. Perhaps added a dragon or three. Or a performance by a wandering minstrel. I'd hate to think I couldn't keep si maer-taelaesaer, aistaresi shar ("the self-centered, immature brat" for those who speak Elven) entertained for 45 seconds."

"Aw, pipe down, scout. She's just a little... 'touched' in the head.", Al pipes in with a chuckle. "I bet she just hates the descriptive language. Probably didn't have an' education... then again, neither'd I. Not that that stopped me."

She takes a bite out of her food and, still chewing, continues. "What I mean to say is... y'know, most people out there don't use language like you do. Hell, can't recall the last time I heard 'discovering' 'sides now... y'know what I mean? Hell, y'know what I mean!"

Apparently unwilling to continue speaking, she swallows the food she was chewing on and sits back with a contented sigh.

"Oh, by the way... She's loose. I bet you could score with 'er!"

After listening to the scouts reply, a smile grows upon Lillys face, "Were there any dragons?" she asks, aparently choosing to ignore the most of the scouts words, or its intent, "Because that would be quite a tale indeed, was it scary....it must not have been a big dragon, else you would have mussied up your fine braids."
Waving for another drink, she listens to the Halflings words, allowing he to finish before she responds.

"It may be true that I might not have attended an education, though I doubt its revelence. You'll have to forgive Fistfight, she was beaten as a child, causing severe brain damage. When they saw that she was to live dispite such a trashing, they cruly tattoed her eyes; perhaps as a constant reminder and sent her afloat down the river."

Satisfied she sits back and looks to the lord, hopefuly this meeting will soon draw to an end.

"Well this is an entertaining go around." The Lord says "But you'll have to continue this else were, I'm a busy man... To be short, then, I'll pay you 20gp per dead Kolbald and 100gp for proof that their leader is dead."

Standing and starting away, he adds "The local wizard and a Dwarf trader in town have more information pertaining to your mission. It has been a pleasure meeting you all, stay safe and may the gods look kindly upon you."

With that, Lord Markelhey leaves you to your own...

Lillys eyes widen as she watches the lord walk out of the room.
Then, getting over her inital shock she starts to wrap up the left over food on her plate and pack it into her backpack.
"How will we keep track of the little buggers that we kill?" She asks aloud to no one in general.

Looking over to the scout, "Do you mind leading the way?"

Al smirks and rolls her eyes knowingly, rocking in her chair as the Lord gets up to leave.

"Hmph... he damn well better, could make up for his being a total and utter coward. Not that I blame 'em, he sure as hell ain't an army...", Al remarks snidely. "An' I ain't leavin' now. I need a break after sitting on a friggin' boat for weeks... ugh. Ye got no idea how much sitting on a lump of wood in the middle of a river can work up the grime..."

Alatea starts to get out of her chair to apologize for her companion to the Lord but decides it is a lost cause and slumps down heavily in her chair, highly embarassed.

"It was strategy, not cowardice, little one. I was asked to scout, not to fight. The information I gathered would be of good to no one if I was slain out on the plains fighting every enemy I came across," says Lucien in a way that seems to say this is obvious to anyone who bothered to think, "Though I have to say, I'm not sure going out with you lot would be a good idea. You are an uncouth bunch and I am not sure it would do my reputation any good to be associated with you."

Thinking for a bit, he finally says, "I suppose it would be alright if I was only working for you for this little enterprise. Say for an equal share of the bounty and treasure you manage to liberate. I can hardly be faulted for making a living, hmm?"

"See, what I was gettin' at was that a really awesome scout would've snuck inside an' taken 'em out without 'em noticin' so 'e could see more, but I guess I'm just readin' too many stories... Say, did he say somethin' about givin' us rooms or somethin'? I need a break!"
