Early Morning greets you with the cool air and wondrous smells of your forest. Called the Harken forest by humans, you've spent most of your life just calling it home and friend.
Soft rays of sunlight tumble in at your small camp through the leaves and warm your face in the morning coolness. Things seem well this day, sweet, pleasant and nice...
It was a beautiful morning in Threuvial's Glade and Prince Lucien Starfall was determined to enjoy it. His long, raven black hair cascaded down his bare and well defined chest as he sat on a stump, fingers working at inhuman speed and skill to braid it. This morning found him one day's ride from the human settlements of the Harkenwold, traveling Northwest along the King's Road towards Fellcrest. That, and listening to the sound of the awakening Harken Wood. Harsheridan in the language of his people, was truly worthy of the name "The Heart's Home." The sounds of the pheasant cooing to her young; the rustle of the leaves from the cool, morning breeze; the smell of the dew on the mighty oak trees--he took it all in, committing it to memory. For he knew that it would be up to a year before he would see his forest home again. Maybe never if he failed. But this...contest was not without its rewards.
A year away from know-it-all Aaronel, from muscle-headed Mosmyth, from the worried looks of his mother, from the disapproving glare of his father. But he would show them that it was wisdom, not cunning or muscle, that deserved to rule. That he deserved to rule. And after he completed this quest, they would see that too. But only if he succeeded. One moves mountains by taking away small stones as Lucien's old tutor Tageril used to say.
With a determined smile, Lucien finished his final braid, and in no time at all, broke camp. Arms and armor ready, items secured, and horse re-saddled, Lucien rode out of his former camp, resolved to clear the Harken Wood by night fall this day. One stone closer from moving this mountain, one more step closer to completing his journey.
